Sarah Domitille Jehle is a visual artist,dancer,and DJ with German-Burundian roots, born and raised in Germany. With an academic background in movement pedagogy and dance in social work (B.A.), her practice is shaped by an ongoing engagement with the body as a medium in which experiences and emotions are stored and become immediately perceptible. Her art explores the coexistence of past and present as it is expressed through bodily presence.
Against the backdrop of historical and contemporary objectifications, stereotypes, and exoticizations of marginalized people, Jehle’s work resists dehumanization and asserts the body as a site of subjectivity and complexity. Formally, this is reflected in minimalist pictorial spaces and blurred contours, in which figures appear between visibility and dissolution. Her work negotiates vulnerability, the desire for safety, and the unspoken within a field of tension between intimacy and distance.
