I actually started drawing because I wanted a poster of my favorite rappers…
Unfortunately they weren’t represented in magazines and I couldn’t afford to buy it online. I surprised myself that it turned out so well because I’ve never seriously practiced drawing lol. So I continued to paint and draw things that inspire me and hang it up on my wall. When more and more people gave me probs for my art I became more confident and started selling it in 2022. It’s really important for me that everybody can afford my art because I do this for us! That’s why I focus on selling art prints.
I want to represent hip hop culture which was created by black people because it empowerd me when I felt like I lost my roots. I’m telling you being black in Germany can give you a deep identity crisis. My art and dancing helps me through this. I hope it can also empower other people.
#decolonizeart
I started using this hashtag because I feel like the art scene is not welcoming to people like me. Education, looks, connections, gender, class, age, descent, etc. should not matter if we discuss art after all it exist since the human itself. All these barriers are creating a power imbalance which is the result of colonialism – The system of oppression.
I don’t let this discourage me but go my own way.
I know my worth and am not dependent on anyone.
HATERS GONNA HATE! FUCK THE SYSTEM!
